Privacy Policy


1. Confidentiality


Lateral Inc is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.

This document discloses the privacy practices for Tech Hunt including:

  • What personally identifiable information of yours is collected
  • How the information is used
  • With whom the information may be shared
  • What are your rights regarding collection, use and distribution of the information
  • What kind of security procedures are in place to protect your information under Lateral Inc.'s control against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage

2. Children


Children under 13 are not eligible to use our services and we ask that they do not submit any personal information to us. We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

Children under 16 are required to ask for consent from the holder of parental responsibility.

3. Information We Collect


To fully use our services, you will need to register using our online registration form, where you will be required to provide us with your contact information (names and email address). We automatically track certain information about you based upon your behaviour on our site. We use this information to do internal research on our users' demographics and behaviour to better understand our users and their use of our website. This information is compiled and analysed on an aggregated basis.

We collect and store all your attempted answers to the puzzles. None of the puzzles require any personal information for solving, every solution is unique for a puzzle and the same for all users. We thus ask that you never submit any kind of personal information as part of your answers (passwords, phone numbers, addresses, credit card details, medical or health condition, race or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs or other sensitive data).

The Site's web server automatically collects browsing information the URL that you just came from (whether this URL is on our site or not), which URL you next go to (whether this URL is on our site or not), what browser and operating system you are using, your IP address etc.

In addition, we use cookies on most pages of our site. Cookies are stored on your hard drive, not on our site. Most cookies are "session cookies," meaning that they are automatically deleted at the end of a session. The other type of cookie we use is a "persistent" cookie.

4. Our Use of Your Information


We use your name in order to address you in our communications and on our website and in certain internal reports.

We use your email in order to communicate with you, for instance when we publish new puzzles. We may also use it to get in touch with you for a potential in-person meeting. We do not send advertisements or newsletters.

Using the Site's web server log files, we use IP addresses to analyze trends and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

We may also offer certain features that are only available through the use of a cookie. Cookies can also be part of the puzzles. We use persistent cookies to automatically identify who you are, provided that you opt in to this feature. We use this cookie so that you do not need to log in manually every time you visit the site if you are a registered user. The cookie itself contains no personally identifiable information but it does pass an ID to our server which allows us to tie the cookie to your personal information. You are always free to decline our cookies if your browser permits, although in that case you will not be able to use certain features on our site. For example, if you disable cookies, you will need to log in manually each time you visit the site, or you might fail to advance through the levels.

5. Our Disclosure of Your Information


For the purposes of email communication, we currently share your email and name with our email service provider, Sendgrid.

Due to the existing regulatory environment, we cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other personally identifiable information will never be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

For example, we may be forced to disclose information to the government or third parties under certain circumstances, or third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications. We can (and you authorize us to) disclose any information about you to law enforcement or other government officials as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate, in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringements, or other activity that is illegal or may expose us to legal liability.

6. Your rights


1. Right to be informed

First and foremost, you have the right to be informed whether or not we process your data. If so, then we will make all efforts to provide this information to you: the purposes of our processing, the categories of personal data we process, the recipients with whom we disclose your data, the period of time that we are storing your data, your rights to lodge a complaint with a supervising authority, the source of other personal data that we do not collect from elsewhere, whether we use any automatic means of decision making that may have an impact on your experience on the site, the right that you request rectification or erasure of your data.

2. Right of access

You can request that we provide you a copy of the personal data that we process. If you make this request in an electronic form then, ulness you require otherwise, we will also provide the data in a commonly used electronic form.

3. Right to rectification

You have the right to request us that we rectify any inaccurate personal data that we store. This also applies to cases where you complete any previous imcomplete data.

4. Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’)

You have the right to obtain from us the erasure of your personal data. We are also commiting to erase your personal data by our own decision if and when the data is no longer necessary for the purposes that it was originally collected or when we are obliged to do so to comply with legal obligations.

5. Right to restriction of processing

You have the right to restrict our processing of your data if you contest its accuracy and while we verify this claim, if you oppose to erasure and only ask for restriction, if we no longer need the data yet you require it for establishing, exercising or defending legal claims or if you object our processing while the verification of our processing grounds are legitimate.

Wile restriction is in place we will only use your data with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of important public interest. We will notify you before the restriction of processing is lifted.

6. Notification about erasure, rectification or processing restriction

We will communicate to each 3rd party with which your data was disclosed any rectification, erasure or processing restriction of your data.

7. Right to data portability

You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and have the right to transmit those data to any other personal data processor without any opposition or interference from our part. Where the technical feasibility exists, you have the right to request direct such transfer from us to your designated processor.

8. Right to object

You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to processing of your personal data. We will no longer process your data unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

9. Automated individual decision-making, including profiling

You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on an automated processing which can produce legal effects or affect you in a significant way. This does not apply when this type of processing is necessary for performing our services to you, when legally required or when you give explicit consent.

Restrictions

There are cases when the scope of obligations and rights is affected by the legal context in which we operate. These legal restrictions should respect the essence of the fundamental rights and freedoms and are a necessary and proportionate measure in a democratic society to safeguard national security, defense, public security, etc

7. Security measures


We implement a range of procedural and technical measures with the purpose of ensuring a level of security appropriate to the risks. These measures are implemented with respect to the state of the art, the costs of implementation and the nature, scope, context and purposes of processing as well as the risk of varying likelihood and severity for your rights and freedoms.

Technical measures include: the use of HTTPS/SSL in all access to the website, the use of encrypted databases, the use of a reputable partner for hosting the IT infrastructure supporting the website (Microsoft Azure).

Procedural measures include: restricted access to the IT infrastructure and content to a limited number of authorized individuals.

8. Changes to Privacy Policy


If we are going to use your personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify you via email, prior to making such changes. You will have a choice as to whether or not we use your information in this different manner. In addition, if we make any material changes in our privacy practices that do not affect user information already stored in our database, we will post a prominent notice, before changes go into effect, on our web site notifying users of the change. In some cases where we post the notice we will also email users, who have opted to receive communications from us, notifying them of the changes in our privacy practices.
